Navy SEAL Sniper is a revised, updated, and full-color edition of The 21st-Century Sniper.

The sniper is a battlefield threat second to none. Mastering the art of marksmanship is critical but is only part of what makes a Navy SEAL sniper. The modern sniper follows in the long line of warriors that have time and again faced the enemy alone. Snipers must be able to apply the craft in an urban environment or alone on a hostile mountain top with equal effectiveness. Today's sniper has to not just leverage technological advances but have the foreknowledge to select the best rifle and gear for the mission. Increasingly, he must have the mental toughness to adapt to a constantly changing environment, gather intelligence, and truly act as a force multiplier.

In this in-depth look through the eyes of former Navy SEAL sniper instructor Brandon Webb and fellow Navy SEAL sniper Glen Doherty, the authors reveal the fundamentals of not just marksmanship, but the science of shooting, stalking, and camouflage, and how technological advances have changed the training and increased the effectiveness of the modern sniper. Including maritime, helicopter, and urban sniper operations, this updated edition also goes into detail on the latest research, development, testing, and evaluation of weapons and optics. From the basics like compensating for wind and bullet drop, to camouflage and placing yourself or your team in the best position to take a photo or pull a trigger, Webb and Doherty cover the critical elements that comprise the twenty-first century sniper.

For many who read this, you are simply standing on the outside looking in and hopeful that there is a scrap or tidbit of information that will take you from observer to part of the inner circle. Being involved in Special Operations for well over two decades, I can tell you that no book can fulfill that fantasy for you, but this book comes pretty damn close. It is well written and fluid, which helps keep you engaged and more importantly provides you with the opportunity peek inside a world that you probably would never have the chance to ever view.

Brandon is without a doubt one of the most talented and gifted Special Operators in the U.S and Glen is one of the scariest individuals that has graced this planet. Together they provide you, my neophyte friend, with a front row seat to their world. It is as if you have been invited to partake in a private training class, one-on-one, with these two men. They are patient, thoughtful and determined to help you improve not only your ability to put rounds on target - but hopefully become a better person in the process by understanding that with skills come responsibility.

I am not sure what else to write as I typically don't waste my time writing reviews, but felt that this book deserved a quick note for those on the fence. If you are on the fence about buying this book, here is what I would tell you. Either your in the game or on the sideline. Chances are most of your life you have been on the sideline. So, why not do something different, get a copy of this book, study it, devour it and get into the game - it really is the definitive work on this topic in my opinion.

Lastly, one thing about this book that for me is a personally moving.
First and foremost let me state it is a priviledge to review such an awesome work penned by men who have put their lives on the line for our freedoms.
Two of the three men on the cover have been called home for other good works but they passed as true heroes..helping their fellow men in need.
Glen Doherty ran to the sound of violence in the finest tradition of men since the dawn of time on 9/11/2012. With time his heroism will be fully recognized and the nations highest honors will be bestowed on this man. His writing held within this work will be the trusted truth cherished by firearms enthusiasts and men of honor for eternity.
Chris Kyle, arguably one of the most beloved SEALs in history passed while helping a troubled fellow veteran - his foreward is fitting and a reminder to all of us that a lighted torch must be carried by all.
And as to Chief Brandon Webb - it is sometimes harder for those left behind to carry forward but it is vital that those who remain with us, before they are called home, must carry on the good works. Now for content.
The writing style is nice easy prose and does not get get bogged down in minutia and technical jargon. The work takes us through the history of sniping in a summary form with highlights to carry the day - who can't be in awe of a simple Finnish man defending his country as only he can do best.
The details to look for on any great shoointg piece are straightforward - a simple bill to see if your barrel is free of the fore end of the stock is a prime example of great, easy to understand writing. Even a novice can understand all the details as we work through. I will leave it to the reader to explore deeper - it is all there, in simple writing.
