The exhilarating, genre-bending sequel to the sensational New York Times best seller City of Dark Magic
In this action-packed sequel to City of Dark Magic, we find musicologist Sarah Weston in Vienna in search of a cure for her friend Pollina, who is now gravely ill and who may not have much time left. Meanwhile, Nicolas Pertusato, in London in search of an ancient alchemical cure for the girl, discovers an old enemy is one step ahead of him. In Prague, Prince Max tries to unravel the strange reappearance of a long-dead saint while being pursued by a seductive red-headed historian with dark motives of her own.
In the city of Beethoven, Mozart, and Freud, Sarah becomes the target in a deadly web of intrigue that involves a scientist on the run, stolen art, seductive pastries, a few surprises from long-dead alchemists, a distractingly attractive horseman who's more than a little bloodthirsty, and a trail of secrets and lies. But nothing will be more dangerous than the brilliant and vindictive villain who seeks to bend time itself. Sarah must travel deep into an ancient mystery to save the people she loves.

If you haven't read City of Dark Magic, the prequel to this book, you might want to order and read it first. This book and its prequel are excellent fiction and the author exhibits a good deal of original thinking and creative fantasy. In some ways it resembles the "Golden Compass Trilogy," but is quite extraordinary and unique in its own right. Written for all age groups, it would also make a great gift for someone you know who is a science fiction fan.

City of Lost Dreams by Magnus Flyte, a pseudonym for the writing duo of Meg Howrey and Christina Lynch Howrey, who is also the author of the hugely successful book City of Dark Magic, is a bit of everything you want a book to be. It is almost magical in many ways. You have immortal dwarves, time-bending drug, mysterious murder, enchanting sequences, and great locales which are simply amazing. The book encompasses different genres – music, history, mystery, fantasy, thriller, drama, romance and adventure – it is a fusion truly well done!
The story is well crafted, and the characters are truly adorable and amazingly memorable. The book is a worthy upshot to City of Dark Magic. It continues to follow the story of Sarah Weston, Nicolas Pertusato and Prince Max, who are now trying to save Pollina, who is gravely ill. Sarah, Nico and Max are desperately searching for a cure. They zipped across cities, encounter myriads of difficulties but as the saying goes, all’s well that ends well. The action is fast-paced, and penetrating. The author superbly uses the reader’s sympathy for Pollina to reinforce the tension, and keeps you turning the pages as fast as the beat of your heart.
