Sacred Pregnancy was written to help the pregnant woman journey within herself to prepare for the birth of her baby.
Sacred Pregnancy is a gorgeous four-color book especially created for mothers-to-be to reflect on the many personal milestones of the full gestation period of a pregnancy. With beautiful professional photos that correspond to each topic, Sacred Pregnancy also features a journal space for the pregnant woman to record her thoughts and feelings. Each week the mother-to-be is given information on her baby, her body, and her spirit and is asked to reflect on these via the topic of the week, which touches on a variety of issues such as sexuality, fears about labor, becoming a mother, courage, rite of passage, adornment, body image, meditation, and sisterhood to name a few. Mothers-to-be are invited to look deeply at the issues unique to their journey and find a centered, peaceful place to live their pregnancy fully. Lastly, Sacred Pregnancy includes place for the new mother to record her birth story and a large resource section on various birthing options and supports for pregnant women.
“From the spiritual (how to visualize your perfect birth) to the practical (a large section on birthing options), this pregnancy journal is a spiritual adviser and supportive doula all in one.”

"Even if you've just given birth without this journal, it is a gem for your bookshelf.I had given birth just three weeks before its debut, yet I wanted this for my collection. Sacred Pregnancy, unlike other journals I've owned, goes beyond telling you what you may be feeling, or how big baby is, or what to ask your practitioner. The author does all that AND has prepared a visual feast for your eyes with its choice of textures, color, empowering photography, as well as recipes and journal space with tips and tools. My favorite is the questions that really turn your wheel and inspire you to bond with your baby, love yourself, believe in yourself, and what you think you'll do as a mother.
The photography is so stunning that in the nutritional section I was inspired to eat better. Although it does indulge your sweet and salty cravings also.
This is a book I wish I had before I gave birth the first time. It would have helped me truly prepare. I had the right idea that women do this all the time so I could I, but this journal would have aided my dilemma with my body image, change in romance, to 'can I really do this?' to "oh, that's right I'm going to be a mom!" It keeps your thoughts on track and is like a best friend who has been there and can help you prepare for the most empowering journey as a woman. I did it the hard way but I found my way none the less. This is a treasure I highly encourage you to purchase.
I gave it four stars because some of the recommendations (websites) were to pricy stores. Petunia Picklebottom to start. After she just said that our culture focuses quite a bit on the gear of the baby and preparations for excess rather than on preparing ourselves.
I was really expecting to be wowed by this book based on all the great reviews but instead I was extremely disappointed. I researched the author and apparently she's not even a doula or midwife, she's just a women who got together with two photographers and decided to a write a book with ideas adapted from the book "Birthing from Within" and illustrated them with beautiful pictures for profit. I went to the Sacred Pregnancy facebook page and was appalled. Like her book, her web-site is also very image driven and extremely shallow. But what really got to me was the level of cultural appropriation she is embedding into her retreats. She is taking other culture's traditions that women have practice for centuries and is turning them into commodities for profit. Very disrespectful and insulting. Anni Daulter is exerting her privilege in dangerous ways but doesn't seem to care because it is making her money. Furthermore, She host training retreats for women who want to become Sacred Pregnancy instructors at ridiculous prices (over $1000)...seriously, why would anyone pay over $1000 to learn how to decorate a candle and a stick? And it seems that most of these reviews are written by women who have taken the workshops and are now trying to establish businesses as Sacred Pregnancy instructors; hence the amazing reviews.
Anni Daulter promotes sisterhood, which I think is great. The sad part is that she wants people to pay for it...that's bs. Actually, I think is sad that women have to pay for someone to show love and care to them during her pregnancy and labor...that's not genuine care...it's just business. Anni Doulter along with many others have are turning human kindness and love into a commodity to generate profit.
