I own both the print and the Kindle edition of this book.

I love Videohound, and the 2014 edition is another great run of this nearly essential film reference.

However, for reasons I cannot fathom, the Kindle edition is shot through with mistakes, especially with star (sorry, bone) ratings.

I've only been examining the entries starting with the letter A, but already, I note that Scorsese's After Hours has lost a bone from the print version, and the original All the King's Men now only has two bones, despite the book's four-bone rating and the fact that it is still listed in the four-bone category in the index of the Kindle book.

I hope Gale will correct these errors and issue a replacement free to those of us who purchased the bad Kindle version. I'll then be happy to give the book a far better rating - Bones or stars, Gale's choice!

If your household is one of movie fans who pride themselves on their recognition of films, actors and directors, the Golden Retriever is an invaluable resource for resolving disagreements about who that little man with the round glasses and funny ears really is. It is also a great source for getting information about a movie you haven't seen, and finding out who was in a particular movie, who won what award, and what year the movie was released.

This book contains short reviews of every movie that has been released on VHS, DVD, or other digital content, and lists cast, director, composer and other people who were involved in making the film. Probably my favorite section is one which lists every actor of note, and many of not much note, giving dates of birth (and death) along with a complete list of the movies the actor appeared in. This especially useful for those of us who can remember who was in a movie, but can't for the life of us remember the name of the movie. There is a similar section for directors, a complete historical listing of all the Oscars, Golden Globes, BAFTAs, and other awards. And finally, for those who want to see a particular type of movie (Beach Blanket Bingo, Teen Vampires, Family Reunions, Military Westerns, and on and on), there is an extensive list of movies by category.

So, in my household, when we run across a movie on TV, pay-per-view, etc., and we can't agree about who that is, or when the movie was made, or similar questions, the most often heard comment is "Look in the Retriever!"

For the right consumer, this book is well worth the price, and continues to be worth the price through annual updates. Highly recommended for movie devotees.
