This is book 17 in the Goldy Schulz series by the author. It is as expected Goldy helping her husband the police detective solve murders. We find comfort in spending time with the characters we've become familiar with. It is an enjoyable easy read.
That being said, you have to forget reality when reading these mysteries. I do not believe any law enforcement organization would allow this much meddling in crime cases by spouses and their friends, or share the evidence as readily... even in small towns, and have the budgets to provide extended personal police protection for multiple people.
The biggest thing that bothers me about the series is that the author continues to physically harm the heroine in EVERY book. I won't do a spoiler alert more than saying this time Goldy is in a minor accident, severely injured, physically attacked, and shot. If you know the background story, she was abused by her now dead ex-husband that has some reference and emotional recovery in each book. Other reviewers have also said on prior releases, that a caterer with this many problems during her events would most likely not be still in business. I am also surprised that she continues driving at times when she is emotionally unstable and physically hurt and that the characters ride along with her because she is the lead.
I had a couple of minor issues in this book. (There was a whole discussion about she needed to unwind and insisted everyone take showers before her and how she fully expected to be taking a short frigid shower... then she was attacked doing something stupid when she is supposed to be careful and took a very long scalding shower afterward.
