Suzanne and Grace must track down a killer when one of their old classmates is murdered at their high school reunion. I loved this series when it first came out, and eagerly awaited the arrival of each new book. The first 9 or 10 were great, but then they began to change....
The books are now apparently self-published; they're shorter, but in a larger page format (and more expensive!)
Gone is the cute little map of April Springs that was in the front of each book. Not a big deal, but...I liked it.
The last few books in the series have shown less and less character development and all the charming little details that made them such fun to read are becoming more and more scarce; for example, this one didn't even mention Two Cows and a Moose. For that matter, apart from one scene at The Boxcar Diner the rest of the town was pretty much ignored. Suzanne didn't even get to see Jake (how long can a telephone romance last?), there was very little interaction between Suzanne and her mom, and the story lines are getting more and more implausible - how many people have a job with a nice income like Grace, but hardly ever have to do any work? And seriously, where do Suzanne and Grace get off interrogating people like they were a couple of federal agents? If someone tried that on me I'd laugh in their face...just before I slapped it! The police sharing information about an investigation with civilians? Not gonna happen!
Oh, and the warning in the book about the author not being responsible for any medical problems that might develop from eating donuts prepared from her recipes? Really? What's that all about? I have NEVER seen a disclaimer like that in any book or cookbook...and I have over a thousand of the latter.
It seems that Ms.
