Don't Order DogI was a little worried about reading something that wasn't written by one of my tried and true authors but I am very happy I did! The characters are real people who you want to get to know (or stay far far away from, depending on which one we're talking about). They behave and speak like normal people do and are believable. There is depth to them that makes you understand their motives but Wente doesn't spoon-feed you everything. You can guess where things go but you might be wrong and that's part of the adventure.

You never know what you're going to get from a new author. Sometimes you wish you'd never plucked the book off the shelf at all. With Todd Wente's first book, Don't Order Dog, more than anything you're left hoping that this guy is going to give us not only a second book but hopefully a series following these awesome characters. Wente writes with the kind of excitement and grace that is not often found in first time authors. He develops robust and thoughtful characters and puts you in that delightful reader conundrum to either turn the pages faster or try to slow it down to savor them and the characters in them. This book is a winner and well worth the buy. Well played Wente. Hope to read your next book soon!
