About the Author
Grant Morrison has been working with DC Comics for more than twenty years, beginning with his legendary runs on the revolutionary titles ANIMAL MAN and DOOM PATROL. Since then he has written numerous best-sellers — including JLA, BATMAN and
New X-Men — as well as the critically acclaimed creator-owned series THE INVISIBLES, SEAGUY, THE FILTH, WE3 and JOE THE BARBARIAN. Morrison has also expanded the borders of the DC Universe in the award-winning pages of SEVEN SOLDIERS, ALL-STAR SUPERMAN, FINAL CRISIS and BATMAN, INC., and he is currently reinventing the Man of Steel in the all-new ACTION COMICS.
In his secret identity, Morrison is a “counterculture” spokesperson, a musician, an award-winning playwright and a chaos magician. He is also the author of the
New York Times best-seller
Supergods, a groundbreaking psycho-historic mapping of the superhero as a cultural organism. He divides his time between his homes in Los Angeles and Scotland.

If you are not already a fan of Morrison's JLA, this volume probably won't convince you. But if you are looking for a closeout to the final volume of the Morrison JLA run then this is a good final volume.
Unfortunately, the bulk of this book is taken up with the 6-part World Ware III story (plus a prelude tale which to me is the most interesting chapter). Basically it's a tale of a solar-system sized weapon that is on track to destroy Earth. Thing is, Morrison once again tries to cram too much into the story and also purposefully copies himself. Much like the Rock of Ages story from Vol. 2, this one involves a cosmic threat paired with a barely-tangental story involving (once-again) Lex Luthor and (yet another) Injustice Gang. The story also ties into the mini-series that preceded JLA #1 which, since Morrison didn't write it, is not contained anywhere in these 4 volumes so unless you already know who/what Know Man was then the climax is going to seem like it came from out of left field. Also, Porter's work here seemed rush and cramped and wasn't some of his best work. Add to that the fact that the danger reaches it peak in Part 3 and tries to continue at that level for 3 more issues and by the time it's over, you're glad it is.
Thankfully, DC included a much better story here. Earth-2 is a tale of the first encounter (in this time line) of the JLA with the Crime Syndicate of Amerika. The CSA existed in another reality previously on a planet called Earth-3, a planet where they were the only super beings and ruled the planet with an iron fist. In this version, the CSA now inhabit an anti-matter version of Earth where the sole super-hero, Lex Luthor, travels to the JLA world seeking out their aid to save his Earth from the CSA's tyranny.
